Vacation to Staycation

Plans don’t always work out as intended, and having the ability to be flexible makes life easier. Reid and I decided to take a week of vacation, 9/16-9/23, and head out on another road trip. We mapped out a plan to drive from La Crosse > Sioux Falls > Wall > Custer > Deadwood > Home. After two nights of minimal sleep, we woke up (we really gave up on trying to sleep) in Sioux Falls and made the choice to cancel the rest of our plans and head home. Big sigh of relief from the both of us.

Around 1pm we took off heading west. The decision was to take the scenic route, Hwy 14 to La Crosse. The Grandad Bluff welcomed us the view of La Crosse.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grandad_Bluff I’ve never heard of this location until Reid found it when looking for what to do in La Crosse. The Mississippi River bluffs are beautiful and we are always taken back by the view when we see them. Grandad Bluff is a good reminder to be thankful for those who have the drive to save natural resources from greed.

On the way to Sioux Falls we stopped by the Mississippi Dam No. 7.

In Sioux Falls we did a lot of walking which I always enjoy. The city was not what I had imagined! It’s a very busy place. We walked around to the major tourist attractions, then had a nice walk to dinner, and visited a few breweries.

We finally made it on the Upper Dells boat tour. It was a two hour tour with two different spots. We saw the location of the famous picture that brought tourism to The Dells. https://www.wpr.org/vintage-wisconsin-photographer-who-made-wisconsin-dells-famous Then we finished the night with dinner at the Ravina Bay restaurant.
